Save the world with folk art

I made this bag during my university studies. I come from a small rural village, so I was naturally attracted to folk art.

Back to the tradition

When i started to work in the Hungarian Heritage House, I was amazed at how rich our traditional folk culture was. I learned the basic technique of leather craft. This is how we learn from our ancestors...

Párhuzamok project-Paralell project

The aim of this project was to preserve the decorative motifs of the leather jacket of the shepherds. This technique is rarely used by embroiders because there is no longer available the traditionally processed sheep skin. The basis of the experiment was to try a variety of leather materials, which are available on the market. During the project, a designer and a craftsman could work together
to inspire each other.

Leather, fur and embroidery

Here in Hungary we have lots of handicraft masters who study and make folk art as a hobby. They keep hungarian tradition alive. They try to adapt old objects and motives to the modern object culture, so they change forms, colors, material or patterns. In this project i worked together with an embroiderer called Misik Mónika.

Wood carving jewellery with bone

First i thought wood carving is craft only for boys. But i really wanted to try out that one, that is an endangered craft. The masters are old, and the younger one don't have time to do the original hand woodcarving. I usually organizing that kind of workshop to make it alive, and teach more boys this technique.

Blue printing and leather

I really enjoyed making leather and blue dyed fabric accessories (blue dyed fabric made by János Sárdi (http://www.nagynyaradikekfesto.hu/). During the design process, I was excited to find it the possibilities of associating leather with blue paint. The finished works give birth to many new ideas and concepts. I am very curious: how does chlorine change the color of the pattern, how can the sewn lines express the editing principles of the rapport patterns, what is the difference in blue dyeing in the world, how can we use indigo as a medicinal herb in clothing?
