Goals

The aim of the program is to preserve the cultural tradition, handicrafts and motifs. Find new solutions that bring it closer to the urban population of the 21st century.

Why is it important to preserve our cultural heritage, our traditions in the digital world? Having a history allows people to have a strong self awareness, and they often feel rooted in their place in the world. For a modern person it is not easy to connect with their ancestors, understand their world, and thinking. But everybody living in a family that has history and have subconsciously handed down memories that the generations passed on to each other. It is easier to understand the art of the old times through our family history.

Workshop

In the first half of the 5-day workshop, the designer students organized by professor Ayse E. Coskun will take part in handicraft workshop showing traditional leather techniques led by Hungarian leather decorator Réka Farkas, and then in the second half of the project they will create a design object using leather. Questions:

How can we use tradition and our heritage in our life? How can we change traditional ornaments to fit in modern dress or interior design culture? How do families preserve traditions? How do you identify yourself in the knowledge of your family tree? We started with a presentation, followed by a brainstorming collage, and then, related to the theme of family, sketches were made of the memories associated with a chosen person. During the rest of the week, we learned some basic techniques, such as boning, embossing, sewing, quad knitting, twisting, etc. Afterwards, everyone could make their own item related to personal family memories.
